‘Shinrin-Yoku’ is a Japanese term that translates as ‘taking in the atmosphere of the forest’ or is more widely known as ‘forest bathing’. This practice was developed in Japan in the 1980’s and involves walking slowly and mindfully through Nature to connect more deeply with your surroundings and receive the naturally healing benefits that Nature provides.

In a Forest Bathing session we may only cover a short distance of 1-2 km during the 3 hours we are in the forest . The distance covered is not important, so a high level of fitness or experience in walking is not required. The focus is much more on slowing down and paying attention to your environment. You will then be invited to take part in simple yet nourishing activities that allow you to connect with and invite Nature in through all of your senses.

There are opportunities to reflect and share experiences if you wish to do so and we will stop for a break and healthy refreshment during that time.

Forest Bathing has been scientifically proven to improve both physical and mental health and well-being. I will always give an introduction to the practice and share many of these findings and research with you.

Please wear comfortable and suitable clothes and shoes. It is always best to bring layers because even on a sunny day it can feel cool under the canopy of the trees. No flip flops or heels. Please wear footwear you don't mind getting muddy and clothes that you don't mind potentially getting a little dirty as we may sit on the forest floor or fallen trees.

Please bring with you a rucksack with you in case you need to add/remove layers. Please also bring waterproofs in the event of a shower. You are welcome to bring a drink and snack, although this will also be provided. You may also wish to bring a notepad to take nots or sketches.
